The sleep patterns of our resident cubs are still evolving, and it seems like the times asleep are getting longer and longer.

The three bears took a long nap, beginning at noontime.
They got up at 3:00 to forage.
Back to bed between 5 and 6:00.

As humans, it seems to be a no-brainer that being inside during a rainstorm is preferable to staying out in the weather. But bears don’t think that way.

It was raining. Jessamine Bear went up a tree.

Bears feel safest when they are in trees, regardless of the weather.

Beignet and Boudreaux climbed a tree, also.

Boudreaux checked the Acclimation Pen.
Beignet joined him. It’s nice and dry in here, but that doesn’t matter to the cubs.

It seemed that the cubs were just looking for snacks. They didn’t stay long.
Back they went, out into the rain again.

We don’t understand their choice, but of course, we aren’t bears. In the wild, bears accept whatever nature provides. So it makes sense that their instincts tell them it’s best to be outside in the weather.
